Renata Versiani

Classical Ballet Dancer

At 13, Renata took her first professional steps, performing in "A Divina Comédia", directed by Regina Miranda, and joining the Ballet Oficina de Edmundo Carijó group. At 15, she was admitted to the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (TMRJ), where she built a solid career as a classical dancer over the course of 11 years. She rose quickly from corps de ballet dancer to soloist and, at 17, was already performing as First Ballerina under the artistic direction of Jean-Yves Lormeau. Renata danced the major leading roles in classical and contemporary works, under the direction of renowned national and international artists.

Contemporary Dancer

After a decade immersed in the classical world, Renata felt called to explore new frontiers in dance. She joined the renowned Cia. de Dança Deborah Colker, where she began honing her skills as a performer and creator, travelling through Brazil and the world. After her eight years with Deborah, she worked with other major contemporary companies in Rio de Janeiro, among them: Ateliê de coreografia/João Saldanha, Grupo Tápias, Staccato/Paulo Caldas and others. With a degree in dance from Faculdade/Escola Angel Vianna, Renata plunged even deeper into movement research, collaborating with numerous productions, expanding her knowledge and exploring new forms of expression in video dance, performance, teaching and movement direction.

Movement Director and Choreographer

After completing her postgraduate studies in the Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis with Regina Miranda at FAV, Renata immerses herself in Expressionist research, grounding her approach to Singular Movement, her own original research. In 2014, Renata conceived the short film "Corpo Amoroso", demonstrating her versatility as a choreographer, performer and editor. Continuing her journey, Renata took part as assistant choreographer for the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and has been contributing to urban performances, new choreographies and innovative direction, expanding her reach and influence on the contemporary art scene.

Producer

Founder of Versiani Cultural, the production company that stages original shows, educational programs and projects with a strong focus on accessibility and innovation, such as "Inventor de Inutilezas" (PRONAC no. 2511892). She was also co-founder, together with Fernanda Cavalcanti, of Referência em Artes, an independent cultural producer born out of the desire to bring dance to the largest possible number of people and to keep an ongoing dialogue with other forms of artistic expression.
